She currently has a 11 year old son who attends CJA where she serves as Fundraiser Coordinator on the PTA. Parent Meeting Minutes

CJA Parents’ Association Meeting

May 14, 2008

 I. CJA Fun Day 11-3:15, Thursday, June 5 Activities:  Balloon toss, relay races, flag football, obstacle course, Frisbee, kite flying and more.

Food sign up sheet was circulated; 50 participants are expected to participate.

Families should bring their own blankets and chairs.Parents are encouraged to design tee shirts with Fun Day themes.  If you have a talent that you can render to the students, please advise.  It can be in the form of tattooing, or whatever you can think of.  The famous CircEsteem (kindly donated by one of our benefactors) is confirmed for entertainment for 50 students, Street poets are set to perform and a drum line.  The jumping jack, mounted police and K9 unit are pending.  There has been a donation of deserts from Krispy Kreme and Starbucks Coffee.  CJAPA is soliciting volunteers to bring ice, condiments, charcoal, paper plates, napkins, salads, grill master or whatever else you can donate.  Please contact Kelly Longmire for sign up.  We need parents help!!!!

II.  Parent Participation The issue of parent participation was again raised.  How do we hold parents responsible for the fulfillment of their eight mandatory hours of participation?  The administration wishes to discourage a stern enforcement policy that might be regarded as a source of intimidation or cliquishness.  The participation opportunities might be included as part of parent orientation at the beginning of the year.  In the new school year, the CJAPA could do a meet and greet as students are dropped off.  CJAPA could have an event at the orientation to welcome new families so that they know who we are.  Members noticed that other schools in the area have similar challenges with parent participation.  Parents agreed that it would be best for the parent to tell us how you can volunteer and when.

III. Parent meeting with Dr. Zajdel, CJA’s new principal at 4:30 PM

The issues that the CJAPA are interested in discussing with the new principal are as follows:

  • Safety of students arriving and exiting school and transportation
  • Disciplinary policy  - Parents feel it is a little unfair.
  • CJA website maintenance
  • Physical education for everyone, not only sports teams
  • Diversity of teaching faculty, administration, and student body
  • Creation of a student council

Meeting was adjouned at 6:00pm

Informal Final Parent meeting will occur at the CJA Fun Day, June 5th.
